I love lists. So every now and then you can expect me to post some geeky travel-related list that I find interesting. Today it's the 25 busiest air routes in the US, compiled by the Air Transport Assn. of America. Since I live in NYC, I've flown many of them. In fact, I've flown all except 11, 12, 15, 17, 18, 22 and 25.
Here's a list challenge for you. What are the 10 LONGEST FLIGHTS currently in commercial service? I can't find this on the web. Free drink on me for the successful sleuth.
i flew to melbourne from London and that was a 22 hour flight surely that must be up in the top ten of longest commercial flights.
and it was in Economy in the middle seat or a pack of drunken dutch women.

I thought that some of the figures on your "Busiest Airline Routes" table looked suspicious--NY/FLL is #1?--so I checked around the Web and found another table that purports to list the same information, also with the Air Transport Association given as the source. On this list, #1 is NY-LAX, #2 is NY-Chicago, #3 is NY-MCO, and so forth. NY-FLL doesn't show up until #7, and is followed immediately by HNL-OGG at #8. Your table came from Encarta, this one came from a site called www.airlines.ws. This table is undated, which could account for the discrepancy, but I still don't believe that NY-FLL is the #1 air route in the country in terms of passenger volume.

I am not sure that this is still correct, but I checked this a couple of years ago and believe that the longest non-stop routes are:
JFK - Mumbai (Air India)
LA-Paris (Air France)
Phoenix - London (British Air)
Newark - Singapore (Singapore Air)
Los Angeles - Sydney (several)
The longest non-stop US flight is:
Newark - Honolulu (Continental)
If the new airbus ever comes out, BA has already said that it would fly from Hong Kong and Syndey to London which is a considerably longer route.
Please let me know if this is incorrect.
