Americans are officially obsessed with Weather. It has become the new Sports. Watch a storm gain a little strength ... and soon you'll be watching your favorite media source create a logo, choose background music and deploy a team of reporters to cover it.
So be it. But as a commentator on all things travel, I find the most interesting phenomenon to be our constantly placing the "blame" for lousy weather on other parts of the world. Case in point: America's winter cold spells are always described as "barreling down from Canada" ... as if Canadians rolled the storm into a big fat snowball and hurled it our way. Case in point 2: Listen carefully this hurricane season and you'll regularly hear Africa described as the "cradle of tropical storms." Convenient, isn't it?
Personally, I believe all bad weather is the result of Mother Nature punishing humankind for its religious fanatics. So get out your rain gear. We're in for a long, stormy millennium ahead.
