This is a Bubble Tea. It consists of a base of milky tea, sweet flavoring and large pearls of tapioca, all of which you sip through an extra-thick straw. The combination of sweet, chewy and oral make it the perfect guilty childlike pleasure ... and a lot less caloric than a Mocca Frappuchino.
I first came across Bubble Tea when living in San Francisco. The drink originated in Taiwan in the 80s and is finally spreading across the U.S. I was wandering around Chinatown yesterday, shopping for lighting for my new bedroom, and I stumbled across a Quickly Bubble Tea franchise. I bought myself a coconut Bubble Tea in a flash.
